How do I become a naturalized citizen?
If you are age 18 or older use the Application for Naturalization.  If you acquired citizenship from parent(s) while under age 18, use the Application for a Certificate of Citizenship to document your citizenship.  If you are the adopted child of U.S. parents use the Application for a Certificate of Citizenship on Behalf of an Adopted Child to document your naturalization.

When does my time as a permanent resident begin?
Permanent residency begins on the date you are granted permanent resident status.

If I have an expunged criminal conviction, must I disclose that on my application or tell the immigration officer?
Yes, you must disclose all information regarding crimes, arrests, and convictions, regardless of status.  Immigration may deny your application if you withhold such information, even if the original offense was acceptable.

Does the USCIS provide special accommodations for the disabled?
The USCIS makes every effort to afford the disabled reasonable accomodations.  Your immigration attorney can provide Memphis immigration help on which USCIS office can accommodate you.

How long is the naturalization application process?
USCIS reports that after waiting the five years to apply (or three years if your spouse is a citizen), the naturalization application process averages six to nine months.

If granted naturalization, when do I become a citizen?
As soon as you take the Oath of Allegiance to the United States you officially become a U.S. citizen—you may even be able to take the Oath the same day as your interview.

Do I have recourse if the USCIS denies my citizenship application?
If you feel your citizenship application was wrongly denied, you may request a hearing with an immigration officer.  Your denial letter explains how to request a hearing and your attorney can provide further Memphis immigration assistance on procedures.

If denied can I reapply for citizenship?
Depending on circumstances, you may reapply.  Your denial letter should indicate the reapplication date.  Your attorney can provide Memphis immigration information on USCIS procedures for your reapplication options.
